IN THE LAND OF RUGGED MEN
“`The happenings did not spread as fast as you would had anticipated for a happening of such to have spread. Probably because they don’t have relatives in the Garden City or maybe be no one visited.
Mrs. Orua continued drenching the ground with her tears and filling the heavens with her questions. Freedom was still with the shovel but it seemed the deeper he dug the more determine he was to dig the more and the tears that continued dropping from her eyes increased with every load he dug off the grave. His mother paid little or no attention to him till he picked her up on his shoulders and made towards the grave. It was then her mother stood up and her outburst was surprising.
“You killed her so you could bury her in your shallow grave abi?” She started. Rising up to her feet and standing to intercept Freedom and the grave. Her words seemed to had fixed his legs to a spot. He did not move a step forward at the hearing of those words. Those words seemed to had drain him of every form of energy that had being pushing him on since. He could not bring his head to accept the fact that his mother is blaming him for the death of Faith his twin sister. His legs froze and his head stopped working.
“If you don’t want me to shout and call on the neighborhood to bounce on you stay off my daughter.” His mother said with much determination and bitterness.
Freedom stood for as much as he could with the corpse on his shoulders and till his brain could return to normality. He dropped the corpse of Faith at the feet of their crying mother and left the scene for the house. He went inside and returned with just one thing. “A knife”
He walked back to where faith was lying lifelessly.
Communion with the Dead
Yes! tonight, a night of communion.
A night of dinning and fellowship.
A night of exchange of souls and renewal of vows!
A night of dedication and a night that would mark repayment.
As hot tears ride down the jaw of my face,
And my mind melts in confusion to the cries in my head,
The voices wailing in my head as they point blood dripping fingers at me.
How much longer would you keep our soul in distress?
How much longer would we be hungry and not be fed.
Or how much longer would we wail and not be consoled.
When would our heart receive that which it longs for?
And all I said was in a month..
Though it wasn’t night yet he called the day night which is justifiable by the happenings around him. At the completion of his words he cut his finger with the knife in his hands he dripped part of the blood in the grave and some on Faith’s corpse then placed the knife in Faith’s hand and said.
“The shoulders that I used to carry your corpse, I shall use same to carry the gun that would kill your killers.” He said this words and got up ignoring his mother whom was looking at him with amazement. He continued stepping back even as tears continued dropping from his eyes as he backed off walking backwards till he got to the gate. He turned and faced the gate and about to leave but again he turned and looked. After few seconds he turned and walked off and not looking back again. His eyes and gaze did not sway for a second despite the looks he earned due to his walking style and the bloods that had dried on his body.
He walked on till he waved a cab down and miraculously one stopped as others looked and drove off. He entered and he drove down to the Red Dragon’s Secretariat. The few weeks he had returned back to school, he had been thinking of revenge thus he had made some researches but the only thing that scared him off from the Red Dragons House as it is formally called is the fact that he heard they’ve got signature knock and any one that knocked wrongly is considered and enemy and is more likely to be killed. But at this point to him there was nothing more to loose in this life other than his life that he had sworn on the corpse of his late sister.
Immediately he highlighted from the cab and slipped a thousand naira note in the the drivers palm he walked backwards towards the Red Dragons House’s gate and he knocked so loudly that even the men that was in the gym after the second gate heard the banging on the gate. The Capone Spider was among those at the gym. His girlfriend was seated on his lap as he continued popping out smokes from his mouth while the girl was giving him a crazy lap dance. While a bottle of black label was in his other hand.
“Who be that mad police man when want die prematurely?” Spider spoke up very angered. It is believed among them that it is only cops that barge on their gate like that or it is their rivals. Either ways they are always prepared to defend their base. As the banging lasted and increased it intensity they started bringing guns from any damn corner around the open space. From under sacks, inside drums and others from their bags.
Bare chested men with weapons ably led by the Capone walked on to the gate. They opened the eye hole to behold whom the intruder really was only to behold Freedom with blood all over his white shirt.
Bring him in…“`
